Cherry Road, North of Highway 169
Starting October 24, 2023 and spanning around 10 months, a contractor will utilize heavy machinery to reduce vegetation, said Prescott National Forest in a news release. The work is taking place in the Verde District across approximately 4,565 acres as part of the Racetrack Mastication project under the Black Hills Vegetation Management Project. The initiative covers national forest lands on both sides of Cherry Road, north of Highway 169.
No closure, use caution
While there are no plans for area or road closures, Prescott National Forest asks the public to stay clear of the project area when the equipment is in operation. The agency requests that the public refrain from entering zones where heavy machinery is at work, as approaching such equipment can be extremely hazardous, as the operator might not be able to see you.

Forest restoration and management
The utilization of mechanical thinning has proven to be an effective tool for restoration and management. The successful completion of this project will enhance the health and resilience of fire-adapted ecosystems, aid in the restoration of watersheds, rangelands, and wildlife habitats, as well as reduce the presence of hazardous fuels that pose a threat to life and property in the wildland-urban interface.
