On September 8, 2025, firefighters were called to Camelback’s Echo Canyon Trail where a man’s body was discovered.

It is believed that the man fell from above, landing in the gully where his remains were found just east of the trail.

As of Sept. 8, authorities had not recovered the body nor released details as to the date of death nor the identity of the man. Planning for recovery has been especially complicated due to the steep and rugged terrain, as well as the summer heat. As the police and fire departments planned their operation during the heat of the day, they could not safely finalize it before it become too late and dark to attempt the recovery.

Per Arizona’s Family, the departments have advised that some personnel will remain on-site with the body throughout night and until the recovery team, including a helicopter and crew are deployed at sunrise on Tuesday, September 9.

While emergency personnel will be at Camelback Mountain on Sept. 9, no roads, parking lots, nor trails will be closed to the public. However, officials do suggest recreationists consider staying clear of the area to allow police and fire to safely recover the man’s body.
