As reported by 12 News, a segment of northbound Interstate 17 will be shut down this weekend for pavement work. If you’re planning to get your trail fix in the higher altitudes of Flagstaff and away from the Phoenix heat, consider modifying your trip to not get stuck in road-closure traffic.
From 10 p.m. on Friday until 5 a.m. on Monday, the stretch of I-17 between Happy Valley Road and Loop 303 in north Phoenix will be closed. Additionally, the I-17 on-ramps at Deer Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads will be restricted.

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) suggests taking westbound Happy Valley Road to northbound Lake Pleasant Parkway, then eastbound Loop 303 to rejoin I-17 as the recommended detour.
ADOT advises against using local streets as alternate routes for northbound drivers. Traffic is expected to be lighter during the early morning hours. Law enforcement officers will be present at intersections throughout the area to help manage traffic flow over the weekend.
