REI Co-op is calling it a “three-day celebration filled with community partners, outdoor vendors, giveaways, and more.”

REI store on Yavapai-Prescott land

The new store, located at Frontier Village Center and leased from the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Tribe, offers 25,000 square-feet of space for outdoor recreation gear especially for camping, cycling, running, fitness, hiking, paddling, and climbing. The Prescott store will also have a full-service bike shop staffed by certified mechanics.

Grand opening event from mornings though afternoons

Festivities for the grand opening begin at 9am on Friday and Saturday and 10am on Sunday when doors open. The community and visiting REI fans can expect morning giveaways and coffee from local vendor The Launch Pad’s The Moon Café. Additionally, commemorative mugs will be available to REI members and customers when they make a donation to The Launch Pad Teen Center.

Each afternoon throughout the grand opening celebration, there will be an outdoor social with music, giveaways, vendor partners, and more. The National Forest Foundation will be on site and several brands will be represented including Urban Native Era, Oboz Footwear, Black Diamond Equipment, Saucony, Sea to Summit, Gregory Mtn Products, Cotopaxi, Nuun Hydration, Altra, Mountain House, Keen Footwear, Smartwool, Osprey, Hydro Flask, Brooks Running, and Subaru.

REI Prescott store manager Jess Wesling said, “Our team of 60 employees is beyond excited to be a part of Prescott’s robust outdoor community. It has been great to start establishing relationships with the greater Quad-City area and the many nonprofits that steward our local public spaces. With hiking and biking trails 10 minutes in any direction, REI Prescott will be a hub for community connection, quality gear, and inspiration to get outdoors. We look forward to celebrating with this incredible community, our vendors, and non-profit partners during the grand opening weekend.”

The grand opening event will also host local Nation Forest fire managers who will be available to the public answering questions about regularly prescribed fire in the area and National Forest health and safety. They can specifically speak to the prescribed burns taking place November 1 through November 17 in the Prescott Basin.
