Grand Canyon National Park has reopened portions of major South Rim corridor trails that were closed July 13, 2025, following the Dragon Bravo Fire.

Now open:

  • South Kaibab Trail: South Kaibab Trailhead to Tipoff
  • Tonto Trail: Tipoff to Havasupai Gardens
  • Bright Angel Trail: Bright Angel Trailhead to Pipe Creek Resthouse

The decision follows a week of improved inner canyon air quality.

The River Trail (Pipe Creek to the South Kaibab junction) remains closed until October 31, 2025, for Transcanyon Waterline Project work, with reopening expected November 1, 2025. The Silver Bridge will stay closed through November 26, 2025.

Also on November 1, 2025, Phantom Ranch and Bright Angel Campground are tentatively scheduled to reopen, pending completion of new safety systems addressing post-fire flash flood risks. These include upgraded flood detection, evacuation planning, and improved visitor information. Dates may shift as mitigation work continues.

The North Kaibab Trail and Highway 67 to the North Rim remain closed indefinitely due to severe fire damage, rockslides, and required structural repairs. Ensuring visitor and staff safety remains the park’s top priority.

In a press release issued on August 20, the national park said, “Grand Canyon National Park thanks the public for their patience and understanding as staff continue to mitigate safety risks from the Dragon Bravo Fire and work to restore access to corridor hiking trails on the South Rim. The park remains committed to reopening closed areas as soon as they are determined to be safe, and encourages the public to stay informed through future park updates.”

As of August 21, 2025, Grand Canyon officials declared that the North Rim is closed for the remainder of the season due to damages caused by the Dragon Bravo Fire.
