Evening hikes at San Tan Mountain Regional Park will be more occupied and lively than usual on April 19 and 20, 2024 as Aravaipa holds race events on both nights. The trail running and mountain biking event organizer is holding the races these evenings as part of its Sinister Night Runs and Rides series.

While the park and all of its trails remain open for public use during normal operational hours on these dates, expect popular trails and the main trailhead to be busy with racers, equipment and spectators. Plan for wait times to enter the park by car to be much longer than usual as the park hosts the event and the crowds it will draw.

Bike races on Friday the 19th will start at 7:00pm and last for up to six hours. Littleleaf Trail and all of the San Tan Loop Trail will be used by mountain bike racers during this time.

On Saturday night, the earliest races begin at 6:30pm and trails will be in use by runners also until past regular closing time for the park. Trails in use by Aravaipa racers include:

Apart from the commotion during race time, the event organizers will be busy at San Tan Mountain Regional’s main trailhead setting up start/finish line tents, bathrooms, and tables starting in the morning on Friday with tear down taking place until mid morning on Sunday, April 21.

Less congested areas of this park will be found on San Tan’s north side at the Goldmine Trailhead where a larger parking lot, a contact station, and permanent bathrooms are being constructed now. This side of the park will be open to the public with zero-to-minimal impact by the Aravaipa events April 19-21.
