The very popular Cathedral Rock Trail is closed from February 28 through April 13, 2024 for trail maintenance. The Coconino National Forest announced the closure to be in effect Wednesday through Saturday, 8am-4:30pm throughout this scheduled time period.
While the main section of Cathedral Rock’s climb and lookout point terminus are closed, the trailhead and nearby parking lot will remain open. Templeton Trail remains open and accessible from Cathedral Rock Trailhead.
Forest supervisor Aaron Mayville’s trail closure order designates the closed area as, “National Forest System Trail #170 (Cathedral Rock Trail) and all areas within 300 feet from the center of the trail, starting at the junction of the Cathedral Rock Trail and NFS Trail #156 (Templeton Trail) (34°49’19.8″N; 111°47’23.8″W), continuing in a general southwesterly direction, until the terminus of the Cathedral Rock Trail (34°49’8.9″N; 111°47’32.3″W), located within Township 17 North, Range 5 East, Section 25, Gila Salt River Meridian.”
