Beginning the week of March 4 and extending into April, White Spar Trailhead will be temporarily closed. The Prescott National Forest will enforce the closure to facilitate the safe and efficient mobilization of construction equipment and materials as construction of a new trailhead is underway.

The Forest Service provides a map to guide recreationists, particularly those traversing the Prescott Circle Trail, around the construction zone. Motorized trails 64 and 382 will have no access to Highway 89 during this period. To ensure safety for all, the Prescott National Forest urges trail users to refrain from parking in the campground or along Highway 89. Alternative parking options are available at the City of Prescott Goldwater Lake facilities and the Forest’s Watershed Trailhead along Senator Highway.

Construction of the new White Spar Trailhead, a collaboration between Prescott NF’s Bradshaw Ranger District and the City of Prescott is funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act and marks a significant step forward in enhancing recreational infrastructure. FANN Contracting, contracted by the City of Prescott, will commence construction activities on March 1, with an anticipated completion date in early May, subject to weather conditions.

Upon completion, the new trailhead boast new features for recreationists including:

  • Accommodation for 25 vehicles
  • Space for five truck and trailers for equestrian parking
  • A three-panel kiosk
  • A two-stall vault toilet
  • Two picnic tables
  • Accessible parking and pathways

Concurrently, the associated Bean Peaks Trailhead is slated for construction, potentially offering an additional 20 parking spots and another vault toilet.

Prescott National Forest credits these improvements to the collaborative efforts of the Greater Prescott Trails Planning process initiated in 2013, resulting in the authorization of roughly 150 miles of new trails, both motorized and non-motorized, and 15 new trailheads.

Over the past decade, the Forest and its partners have constructed approximately 70 miles of new trails and seven new trailheads.
