As advised by Coronado National Forest, starting on November 15, 2023, the upper section of State Highway 366, commonly referred to as the Swift Trail, will undergo a temporary closure for all vehicle traffic due to potential seasonal snowfall and hazardous road conditions.
The closure point is situated approximately half a mile beyond Shannon Campground, marking the termination of the paved road. This temporary restriction continues until April 15, 2024, with the potential for extension based on winter weather conditions.

It’s important to note that the closure exclusively applies to motorized vehicles; individuals engaging in non-motorized recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and others are permitted to proceed beyond the locked gate for their recreational pursuits.
