No parking or entrance fee charged on November 17
On Friday, Nov. 17, 2023 recreationists are invited to visit any of the many Maricopa County parks with day-use fees waved. The cost is usually $7 per vehicle, but on National Take a Hike Day, the public may enter for free.
“After months telling everyone to recreate during the early morning or evening hours to avoid the heat, we can now just say, take a hike! Our team will be placing extra emphasis on that phrase over the week as we approach the tenth season we’ve celebrated National Take a Hike Day!” said Maricopa County Parks and Recreation director R.J. Cardin.
National Take a Hike Day in Maricopa County
While most celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month throughout July, Maricopa County instead encourages park visitors to enjoy the local trails and parks in the cooling desert fall temperatures especially on National Take a Hike Day.
Clint Hickman, Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, District 4 said, “To ensure everyone has an opportunity to enjoy National Take a Hike Day, the Board has waived the day-use entry fee into all of Maricopa County’s regional parks. I encourage you to invite your family and friends out to one of our many parks for a picnic, hike, or a park program led by an interpretive ranger. Better yet, make a day of it!”
Go outdoors responsibly
Maricopa Country Parks and Recreation encourages the public to enjoy exploring on November 17 and throughout fall, but reminds recreationists to be prepared for heat and sun. Wear appropriate attire and always take more than enough water.
