Queen Creek’s San Tan Mountain Regional Park will be used for a trail running race event on Sunday, Nov. 5.

Trails will stay open during XTERRA’s trail event

The running event is hosted by XTERRA a “global lifestyle brand that champions the outdoor enthusiast in their pursuit of relentless adventure.”

In addition to its renowned 14-mile race, there are also routes designated for 41k, 10k, and 5k runs.

All trails in the park remain open to the public during the event, but these are the trails most affected by race routes:

Expect delays entering the park

Visitors to the San Tan Mountain Regional Park, racing with XTERRA or not, should plan for entry delays starting at 6am and continuing throughout most of the day. The races start at 7am and may extent into the afternoon. The start/finish line, booths and equipment will be set up at the park’s main entrance trailhead on Phillips Road.

How to join the races

Each of XTERRA’s race distances remain open. You can register through their website, and if still open on the Nov. 5, you can register on-site, in person. Note that race registration does not include entry fees into the park – pay at the gate or use your Maricopa Country Parks Annual Pass.

XTERRA is also in need of volunteers for the event. Find opportunities here.

Although the park remains open to non-registered recreationists, trail traffic will be higher than usual and noise levels near the trailhead will be much higher and potentially stress inducing for dogs on the trail.

Stay safe on the trails and always be prepared.
