McDowell Mountain Regional Park is welcoming the community to a public meeting on Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm to discuss the creation of new bike park. It will take place at the Fountain Hills Community Center at 13001 N. La Montana Drive in Fountain Hills, Arizona.
From the Maricopa County offices
About the potential park, Maricopa County Supervisor Thomas Galvin, District 2 said, ““Over the past year, our Parks and Recreation staff have worked closely with facility and engineering designers and stakeholders to develop a new bike park design for the Four Peaks and Competitive Track areas. The team is now at the point where they’d like to share the design concepts with the public and hear their thoughts.”
RJ Cardin, Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Director commented, “Prior to sitting down with the design team, our team released a public survey to determine the level of interest in the project and which features the community would like to see at the bike park. During the 30-day public comment process, more than 550 individuals provided feedback, so we had some good data to work with.”
Bike park proposition
The proposed project area maximizes the use of the current event location while introducing additional features. The envisioned plan encompasses:
- Skills Area: This section may incorporate a variety of pre-fabricated obstacles.
- Pump Track Area: The team is exploring the inclusion of two pump tracks within this area. One may follow a more traditional pump track style with various roller combinations, while the other might emphasize jumps. These tracks will be strategically positioned to allow riders to transition seamlessly between them or use each track independently.
- Jump Lines / Flow Trails: Riders will ascend a gentle incline, gradually picking up speed on their descent. This track will feature progressive jump lines and culminate in a flow trail section at the bottom, complete with a blend of berms and jumps. Moreover, this area is planned to link with two distinct parking zones and offers ample seating.
- Event Space: The event space has been carefully designed to include pedestrian pathways, over 300 parking spaces (including ADA-accessible spots), a warm-up loop, designated spectator areas, and a convenient pick-up/drop-off zone.
For anyone unable to participate in the meeting, a design concept and a public comment form will be accessible at bit.ly/MMPublicMtgComments.
The deadline for providing feedback on the project is December 1, 2023.
