Coconino National Forest and the Mogollon Rim Ranger District have announced the closure of a section of forest and trails that include miles of the Arizona Trail. It is planned to remained closed through December 1, 2023.

Still Fire closes forest south of SR 87

The Forest Service says, “This closure order prohibits the entry to areas surrounding the Still Fire, except for any Federal, State, or Local Officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting resource in the performance of an official duty.”

Trails affected by the closure

The northern miles of the Blue Ridge Segment on the Arizona Trail lie within the Forest Service’s fire closure. Access to the section to its north, Passage 28 – Happy Jack may also be affected.

The Mogollon Rim Ranger District stated, “The AZ Trail will be closed from the intersection of the Fred Haught Trail to SR 87. Note: NFS Road 95 will remain open for through traffic only and will be open starting at the intersection with NFS Road 751B to the South.”

Additionally, although outside the closed forest area, access to or recreation on Kinder Crossing Trail may also be restricted due to the Still Fire.
